PUERPERAL FEVER.
The number of cases of Puerperal Fever notified was 24, or exactly the
same number as the corrected average for the preceding ten years. It was,
however, 5 more than that notified in the preceding year. These 25 cases
represent 2.70 per 1,000 of the births registered during the year, as compared
with an annual average of 2.49 per 1,000 which obtained during the ten years
1894-1903.
In the County of London 273 cases were known and were in the proportion
of 2' 11 to every 1,000 births, while in the Encircling Boroughs the
proportion was 2.28 per 1,000.
Hospital Isolations.—Out of the 25 cases 11, or 44 per cent., were
treated in hospital.
Fatality.—This was as usual very high, and it is a sad record that 56.0
per cent., slightly more than one in every two cases, died.
