The enormous decrease of 1,038 cases below the corrected average was
practically divided, although unequally, among all the infectious diseases, for in
only one class, Enteric and Continued Fevers, was there an increase.
Thus Small Pox showed a decrease of 37 cases, Scarlet Fever 677, Diphtheria
155, Membranous Croup 20, Erysipelas 138, Puerperal Fever 17, Cholera 1.
The increase from Enteric Fever was only 6, and from Continued Fever 1.
Typhus Fever remained at its average of 1 case.
The Borough returns compare with the returns of the Encircling Districts, as follows:-

It is seen from these figures that the lightest incidence of the diseases occurred
in Barnsbury, where the case-rate was only 5·94 per 1,000, while the heaviest
occurred in Islington South-east, 7.36.
