INSPECTION OF FACTORIES AND WORKSHOPS AND
WORKPLACES.
On every hand there has been a general acknowledgment that the work
performed by the Inspectors has been of a most useful character, and that the
improvement in the sanitation of factories, workshops and workrooms has been
very considerably improved through their action.
It is further a matter of satisfaction that although the duties of the Government
Inspectors and those of the Council at some points very nearly overlap each
other there has been no clashing and no friction; but that, on the contrary,
all have worked harmoniously together for the common good.
There were on the registers 1,462 premises in which workpeople were
employed, of which 1,011 were on the female inspector's register and 451 on that
of the male inspector.
During the year 7,411 visits were paid to the several premises, of which Miss Gray made 3,365, and Inspector West 4,046. These visits resulted in the following work being effected:—
