vaccination, It is the law now (vide Clause 3 of the Third Schedule of the Vaccination
Act, 1898), that, "All Public Vaccinations are to be performed with
glycerinated calf lymph, or with such other lymph as may be issued by the Local
Government Board," A great responsibility rests on the Vaccination Authority,
which is the Board of Guardians, many of whose members are most anxious to
fulfil their duty, while others, from conscientious motives, without doubt, seem
anything but desirous to enforce the law, Possibly it is on this account that so
many children in the Hornsey Road Parish Schools are at present unvaccinated,
Such a state of affairs is lamentable, and a grave danger to the children in the
schools, for at any moment, especially when it is recollected that some hundreds of
people, coming from every part of the borough, visit the schools every month, there
is the possibility of the disease being introduced from without, That which was
possible to a lady living in Highbury Quadrant, who rarely went out of her house,
who never came into contact with people from insanitary homes, is surely probable
to scholars who are visited by such persons as have been mentioned,
The two following tables are worthy the closest attention as showing the state of Vaccination in Islington at present and in past years :-
