There can be no doubt that these examinations are a very great assistance to
medical men in diagnosing obscure cases of disease, and therefore it is to be hoped
that in the future more numerous examinations will be made, This is particularly
to be desired in throat cases, in which, very frequently, owing to the
mildness of the symptoms, diphtheria is not easily diagnosed, The result is that
these cases spread the disease, On several occasions circumstances of this character
have come under observation, and in nearly every case the later attacks assumed
a more severe, if not a grave type,
The following table gives a quarterly statement of the result of the examinations
made since 1898 :-
