INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The infantile mortality, or proportion of deaths under one year of age to registered births, is
an important factor in vital statistics. The deaths under one year, which in the three preceding
years had been 641, 581 and 515 respectively, were 510 in 1903, being equivalent to 143 per 1,000
births, and 5 per 1,000 fewer than in 1902.
In the Town sub-district the deaths under one year (461) were equivalent to 152 per 1,000
births, those in Brompton (49) to 92 per 1,000.
The infantile deaths in North Kensington, after distribution of the deaths at the Borough
Infirmary, were 411, or 158 per 1,000; the deaths in South Kensington 99, or 103 per 1,000.
