It will be seen that the disease appears to have a greater incidence
on the Inner, than on the Outer, Wards, in the same way
as the death-rate (per 1000 persons living) from this disease is,
also, greater. This result was to be expected, bearing in mind the
more crowded conditions (persons in houses or houses over area)
that exist in the Inner, as compared with the Outer, Districts—the
patients notified being chiefly of the artisan and working class.
Sanatoria for Consumptives.
The Council approved, during 1903, the Metropolitan Asylums
Board supplying Sanatoria for the use of Metropolitan Consumptives,
and for using, for that purpose, at least temporarily,
the existing (at present disused) Smallpox accommodation at
Gore Farm. The value of Sanatoria is admitted by all practical
