TYPHUS FEVER.
No case was notified.
ERYSIPELAS.
The 357 cases which were notified were 29 below the corrected average
of the ten years 1892-1901, and were equal to an attack-rate of 1.04 per 1,000
of the population. The rate is 0.11 below the mean decennial rate.
The attack-rate in the County of London was 1.19 per 1,000, and in the
Encircling Districts 1.22.
Hospital Isolation.—42 cases, or 11.8 per cent., were treated in
hospital, and 315, or 81.2 per cent., at home.
Fatality.—13 deaths, representing 3.6 per cent. of the cases, occurred, of
which 5, or 11.9 per cent., died in hospital, and 8, or 2.5 per cent., died at
home. The great disparity between these percentages is accounted for by the
fact that the majority of the latter were attacks of the most trivial character
whereas the hospital cases were mostly very grave.
