CONSTITUTIONAL DISEASES:
Tuberculous Disease.—During 1904 there were 442 deaths in the
Borough due to tuberculous disease. They are grouped under the
following heads:—
Tuberculous Phthisis 191
Phthisis 104
General Tuberculosis 64
Tuberculous Meningitis 41
„ Peritonitis 14
Tabes Mesenterica 17
Tubercle of other organs 11

This is equal to a mortality rate of 1.7 per 1,000 living. The deaths were distributed in the different sub-districts in the following proportion:—

Cancer.—There were 182 deaths recorded in the Borough during
1904 as due to this cause. This is equivalent to a mortality rate of
•80 per 1,000 living. The deaths were distributed in the sub-districts
