The disinfection of this weight of articles at the charges made by the contractor formerly employed by the Council, viz., 15s. per cwt., would have cost the Council £2,267 12s. 6d. The actual cost is set out in detail below:–

By carrying out the work of disinfection without the
intervention of a contractor this Council in the year 1905 saved
the ratepayers £1,176 12s. 3d. Such a result is highly
satisfactory and reflects credit upon Mr. Woodhouse, the
Disinfection Superintendent. The amount saved in this way
in each year since the opening of the Disinfecting Station in
March, 1902, is stated below:—

The result of the Council's action in carrying out the work

been to effect a saving of £2,950 8s. 3d., a sum which is not
