Marriages.
The marriages registered during the year numbered 1,442,
or 109 more than the decennial average, and 70 more than the
number in 1902. The marriage-rate, i.e., the number of
persons married per 1,000 population was 16.6, or .6 above
the decennial average. It will be seen that the marriage-rate
has increased during the last ten years, while the birth-rate
has steadily declined.
