The mean numbers of deaths in Registrars' Sub-Districts of
Hackney to total births varied but little in the various districts in
1891, as compared with 1890, but the percentages had decidedly
decreased in West Hackney, slightly in South Hackney and
Stamford Hill, decidedly in Stoke Newington and Hackney sub.
districts. Doubtless there has been an increase in the number of
houses built, and therefore of families in them, as compared with
other sub-districts. The total number of births registered in the
district was 7,126, against 6,730 in 1890— very decided, especially
when it is considered that there were 53 weeks included in the
Registrar's year. All my statistics are made up for the calendar
year, except as regards the births, for which I cannot obtain the
necessary statistics.
