DEATHS.
During the year 1896, the corrected total number of deaths from all causes
at all ages was 4460,being 334 less than during the preceding year,and 396 below
the annual 'average of the preceding ten years. Per 1000 of the population
the death-rate was 18.3, compared with 20"3 in the previous year, and an
annual average of 20.3 in the preceding decennium.

The total number of deaths and the death-rates in the Sub-Districts are set out below, 176 deaths from all causes not referable to any particular Sub-Districts being distributed according to population:—
