Report of the health of Tottenham for the year 1893

Births.
The births registered in Tottenham during the year were 2,580,
1,345 males and 1,235 females.
The birth-rate, calculated from the total number of births, and
the foregoing estimate of population, was 34.4, against 33 0 in 1892.
The natural increase of population, that is: the excess of births
over deaths was 1,142, that for 1892 being 1,192, and for 1891, 1,448.
Deaths.
The number of deaths was 1,429, of these 706 were males and
723 females, against 1,237 in 1892, and 1,121 in 1891.
From this number must be deducted 200 deaths, which occurred
in public institutions, of patients who came from districts outside Tottenham.
On the estimated population of 75,000 the 1,229 deaths give
an annual rate of mortality of 16 3, against 16 8 in 1892.

In greater London, which is co-extensive with the Metropolitan
and City Police Districts, estimated to contain a population of upwards
of five-and-a-half millions of persons in the middle of 1893, the deathrate
was 19.7 per 1,000.
In Inner or Registration London the death-rate was 23.0, and
in the Outer Ring it was 15.4.
