Admissions to Hospitals.—The subjoined Tables
show the magnitude and the growth of the work of the
Board. The contrast between the large numbers of cases of
small-pox dealt with by the Managers in bygone years
and the small number admitted to the hospitals in the last
seven years is striking. The increase in scarlet fever and
other cases admitted to the "fever" hospitals since 1889, compared
with previous year, is not less striking. The decrease
in small-pox admissions is due to London's immunity from
epidemic prevalence of the disease, the increase in the other
diseases being largely the result of notification.
