CLEANSING OF STEEETS.
Footways, Courts, &c.—The day gang of sweepers
consists of 5 of the oldest of the scavengers.
Temporary Sweeping Gang.—A temporary gang
of sweepers was employed as required, the wages of
which was £65 l1s. 7d.
The night gangs remain the same as the previous
year, viz., 22 scavengers and 2 horse brooms. The
number of loads of street sweepings removed was
6,595. The average number of horses employed
was 11.20 per day, including those with the brooms.

WIDENING ST. JOHN'S LANE.
The Holborn Board of Works purchased a piece
of land on the east side of St. John's Lane by St.
John Street for the purpose of widening the carriageway
at that point, and the Vestry re-laid the footway
on west side and the portion of carriageway
under their control,
