22 ON THE SANITARY CONDITION OF
Distribution of Deaths in Sub-Districts and
Parishes.
From the Tables in the Appendix may be seen the
manner in which the deaths were distributed in the
two Registration Districts. Thus, while the death rate
was 22.2 for the whole District, it was only 16'3 in the
parish of St. Anne, Soho, but in the Strand Sub-District
it reached 28 0 per 1,000 inhabitants.
The death rates of the parishes composing the
district appear to be :—
16.37 for St. Anne, Soho.
31.67 „ St. Clement Danes.
26.92 „ St. Mary-le-Strand.
16.97 " St. Paul, Covent garden.
and 23.3 for the Liberty of the Rolls and Precinct of
the Savoy.
Based, however, on the estimate of the RegistrarGeneral
under the "Equalisation of Rates Act," the
population is greater in St. Anne's and less in St.
Clement's than my figures. On his figures with outlying
paupers added, the death rates are for:—
St. Anne, Soho 15'86 per 1,000 inhabitants.
St. Clement Danes 33.39 „ ,, „
About one-third of the population of the District is
in St. Clement's parish, and nearly half the deaths.
As the Quinquennial Census takes place in 1896
we shall be able to obtain more exact figures, and to
correct the estimated rates of the last five years.
Mortuaries in the District.
During the year, the number of dead bodies received
