In accordance with the requirements of Circular 69/63, issued by the
Minister of Housing and Local Government, it was ascertained that provided
a freedom of choice of approved appliances to be installed in the area was
given to householders there would be sufficient supplies of smokeless fuels
available to meet increased demands not only for all existing improved open
fires, but also for all other householders who may wish to install improved
open fires.
The Borough Council have now agreed to make grant payments in
respect of approved expenditure incurred in installing the following approved
appliances where replacement of firegrates considered to be unsuitable for
burning smokeless fuels are necessary:—
Openable stoves, under-floor draught open fires, fixed
gas heaters, fixed electric thermal storage heaters,
fixed oil heaters, and modern inset open fires.
No grants can now be paid in respect of any electrically operated
space heating appliances (excepting approved electric thermal storage
heaters) in respect of the No. 3 Smoke Control Area or in any future Smoke
Control Area unless the Minister decrees otherwise.
