Handsworth Avenue Day Nursery.
The first case occurred on February 6th, 1945. The usual
precautions were taken, including swabbing of all staff and children.
Two swabs were positive and later two others gave positive swabs
who were originally negative. Twelve days later a staff nurse
gave a positive swab, she also being negative at the original swabbing.
There were six cases and the Nursery was cleared by March
26th, 1945.

Public Health (Infectious Diseases) Regs., 1927.
Compensation was again continued to a chronic enteric carrier.
A baker was compensated for the short period during which
he was a Dysentery carrier.
ANTERIOR POLIOMYELITIS.
Two cases were notified, one being later withdrawn.
Details of the confirmed case are as follows:—
A female, age 5 years (High St. Ward)—removed to hospital.
There were no cases of Encephalitis Lethargica, nor of PolioEncephalitis.
OPHTHALMIA NEONATORUM.
Two cases were notified in the Higham Hill Ward. Both were
removed to hospital and both recovered with no impairment of
vision.
