BACILLARY DYSENTERY.
A total of 84 cases was notified (Higham Hill Day Nursery—9,
Handsworth Avenue Day Nursery—6, Schools—26, others—43).
The previous highest totals were 84 in 1937 (which included an
outbreak at the Nursery School) and 83 in 1944.
Details of the cases at the Day Nurseries during 1945 are given
below:—
Higham Hill Day Nursery.
The first case occurred on January 22nd, 1945. The usual
precautions were taken, including swabbing of all staff and children.
Five swabs were positive and later three others who were absentees
gave positive swabs, making a total of 9 positive swabs. The
nursery was cleared by March 13th, 1945.
