(d) Adulteration, etc. (Food and Drugs Adulteration Act, 1928).
Eighty-five samples were submitted for analysis during the
year. Five were not genuine.
With regard to the five samples of milk which were unsatisfactory,
two summonses were taken out against two employees of a
dairy firm in respect of four of these milks. A considerable number
of samples were taken on delivery anent this matter, and one
defendant was ordered to pay £2 12s. costs, and the other defendant
was ordered to pay 4s.
In the case of the remaining sample, other samples were taken
in course of delivery at the defendant's request, and at the hearing
of the information the Justices ordered the dairyman to pay £2 6s.
costs.
Although the Council is not a Food and Drugs Authority,
such good work has been carried out in the past by continuous
sampling under this Act and the Milk and Dairies (Amendment)
Act that no real relaxation in this matter is contemplated.
(e) Chemical and Bacteriological Examination of Food.
Chemical examination is carried out by the Public Analyst,
Dr. Bernard Dyer, at Great Tower Street, E.C.3.
