Bacteriological Examination.
Systematic sampling of all sources of milk was instituted
during the year for the bacteriological and biological examination
and proved of considerable value in the effort to improve methods
and equipment in the dairies. The results of the samples taken
are summarised in the following table :—

The bacteriological work is carried out by the' Counties Public
Health Laboratories, E.C.4. It was gratifying to find that all
milks submitted for biological examination, which is for the
detection of tubercle bacilli, were satisfactory.
Registration.
Steps have been taken to effect the registration of all purveyors
of bottled milk, and the registers at the close of the year
were undergoing complete revision.
Meat Inspection.
The number of visits by the Sanitary Inspector to slaughterhouses
for the purpose of carrying out post mortem examinations
of animals was 1,234. Much of the inspection is carried on in the
late evenings and Sundays. The animal carcases examined
included 2,189 bovines, 22,483 pigs, 3,066 sheep, and 881 calves,
a total of 28,6,19 as compared with 27,900 carcases in 1934. Meat
