Administration of Gas and Air Analgesia. In July, 1945
(Council Minute 2392) Leyton Maternity and Child Welfare Authority
agreed to the training of Municipal Midwives in the administration
of gas and air analgesia and to the purchase of the necessary
apparatus.
Since that time all midwives of the Essex County Training
Home, Beachcroft Road, have attended courses of training and
obtained the necessary certificates. Training in gas and analgesia
has since become a necessary part of the training for Part II of the
certificate of the Central Midwive's Board.
Of the Council's three Municipal Midwives directly employed
one is not in possession of the necessary certificate for administration
of gas and air analgesia.
The following list shows the number of domiciliary confinements
attended by midwives (not including cases attended as maternity
nurses) during the year and the number of such cases to whom
gas and air analgesia was administered:—
Cases attended as Midwives 557
Number of administrations of gas and air analgesia 204
Percentage of administrations 36.6
