Effect of the War.—What was said in the Report for 1914 with regard to the
effect produced by the war on the department and its work applies fairly well
to the year under review. The Medical Officer of Health continued to act as
"Sanitary Surpervisor" of camps, billets, etc., in the Borough, and submitted
weekly reports to the Deputy Director of Medical Services with regard to the
conditions.
Premises in which food intended for the troops was prepared were kept under
observation, and workshops in which clothing was made were regularly visited.
\
The. baths and other conveniences placed at the disposal of the men were
greatly used, and large numbers of blankets and other articles were dealt with at the
Council's disinfecting station.
PROTECTION OF THE FOOD SUPPLY.
Inspector Smith, who had acted as food inspector for some years, enlisted in
November, and his duties were distributed amongst the inspectors who remained.
Food Inspection.— Throughout the year, both before and after the departure of
Inspector Smith, food inspection was carried out on the lines described in previous
reports.
