The practice of examining articles of food at the request of vendors was
continued. Amongst the articles examined and surrendered, on the finding of the
Inspector that they were unsound, or unwholesome or unfit for food, were:—
A quantity of eggs. 1 cwt. ot bacon.
„ „ tomatoes. Cask of meat.
,, „ pears. 1 case of herrings.
„ „ oranges. 1 trunk of mackerel.
„ „ strawberries.
„ „ plums.
During the year four seizures of unsound food were made, and proceedings
were taken in each case as follows
For exposing and depositing for Defendant fined £1 and £1 Is.
sale a quantity of unsound oranges and costs on first summons and 2s. costs
tomatoes on a stall in Church Street. on second summons.
For exposing and depositing for sale Ditto.

The following lists give information with regard to such premises in the borough.
Regular and frequent visits were made throughout the year. No conditions calling
for the service of notice were found.
