BIRTHS.
During the year there were 4,577 live births registered, of which 2,303 were
boys and 2,274 girls. Of this number, however, 812 were born of mothers
living in Islington, although they were confined in Lying-in Institutions, and in
other homes situated outside the Borough. The annual birth-rate was equal to
14.85 per 1,000 of the population, as compared with a mean birth-rate of 17.12 in
the preceding ten years. In 1933 the lowest birth-rate (14.35) was recorded.
