Slum Clearance.
During the year, representations for slum clearance were made
in respect of 27 areas, 249 premises being represented out of 959
inspected. Of the 27 areas concerned 23 were situated in the Winstanley
Road area, and the remaining 4 were in the Battersea Park Road area
These latter were the Weybridge Street Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Areas and the
Henley Street Area.
The representations of the 23 areas in the Winstanley Road district
followed the survey of the whole area carried out in 1959, to which
reference was made in the Annual Report for that year. The areas
concerned were as follows : —
Winstanley Road Nos. 1 to 8 Areas.
Creek Street Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Areas.
Lavender Road Nos. 1 to 4 Areas.
Meyrick Road Nos. 1 to 4 Areas.
Newcomen Road Area.
Grant Road Nos. 1, 2 and 3 Areas.
Compulsory Purchase Orders in respect of Speke Road (No. 1)
Area and the Battersea High Street (No. 1—North) Area were confirmed
by the Minister of Housing and Local Government following
Public Inquiries. These Orders included seven areas which had been
represented for slum clearance in 1959.
Inspections made in connection with slum clearance during 1960
totalled 734.
