There are 4 premises in the Borough at which filling materials
other than rag flock are used, and these are registered.
There are no premises at present dealing with rag flock.
Nine visits were made to registered premises during the year,
but no contravention of the Act was discovered.
Rag Dealers and Sorters.
Premises occupied by rag sorters in the Borough are subjected to
regular inspection. During the year 110 inspections were made.
Offensive Trades.
There are two premises in the Borough at which the scheduled
offensive trade of fat melting is carried on. The firms concerned have
been established for many years, and the trades are conducted
satisfactorily.
Local Land Charges.
Enquiries relating to Local Land Charges in connection with
Notices served by the Department, information concerning the issue of
Disrepair Certificates, and the way in which premises are drained, are
regularly received. These enquiries require a careful search of records
and drainage plans. During the year, 1,893 enquiries were dealt with.
Shops Act, 1950.
Since the transfer of certain functions under Section 38 of the
Shops Act, 1950, from the London County Council to the Borough
Council, inspection of all shops in the Borough is in hand to bring
existing information up to date. During the year 205 inspections were
made and three notices were served.
One application for an exemption certificate in respect of sanitary
conveniences was received in connection with a small lock-up shop
where restricted space precluded the provision on the premises of such
accommodation. The Council's public conveniences are within one
hundred yards of the shop, and the applicants state that the one
employee at the premises had permission to close the shop whenever
necessary, and the application was therefore granted.
Offices Act, 1960.
This Act comes into force on the 1st January, 1962. Regulations
will be made to secure the health, safety and welfare of persons employed
in offices. When the Act is in force, it will be necessary to post in
a prominent place accessible to all persons employed at any office a
copy of any prescribed abstract of the Act or Regulation made. The
Health Committee have been authorised by the Council to exercise
on the Council's behalf the powers and duties conferred upon them
by the Act.
