Demolition Orders.
No Demolition Orders under Section 17 of the Housing Act, 1957,
were made during the year.
Closing Orders.
Under Section 17 of the Housing Act, 1957, 12 Closing Orders in
respect of dwelling houses were made during the year, and 19 basement
rooms were closed under Section 18 of the Act.
Court proceedings were instituted against two persons in respect
of a house and part of a house which had been re-occupied in contravention
of the Closing Orders. In the first case fines amounting to £25
were imposed, with £7 10s. Od. costs. The second case was still awaiting
a hearing at the end of the year.
Overcrowding.
Seven cases of overcrowding creating offences against the provisions
of Section 78 of the Housing Act, 1957, were investigated
and appropriate action taken to secure the abatement of the overcrowding.

The number of applications received for the issue, and for cancellation,
of Certificates of Disrepair, and for Certificates re undertakings,
showed a marked decrease when compared with the previous year, as
did the number of Certificates of Disrepair cancelled during the year.
At the end of 1960 there was still 148 Certificates of Disrepair in force.
Housing Accommodation Applications.
All applications made to the Council are normally dealt with by
the Housing Manager, who refers to me those cases in which the
application is based wholly or partly on medical grounds. These cases
