Report on the health of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea for the year 1912

The birth-rate, i.e., the number of births per 1,000 of the
population was 25 4, as compared with 26 1 in 1911. Last year
there was apparently a marked increase in the birth-rate as compared
with the rate for 1910 (viz., 26 1 as compared with 23 7).
This was not a real increase however, but is to be accounted for
by the fact that the rates were based on the estimated population
as calculated by the Registrar General, but which the Census
enumeration of 1911 has now shown to have been greatly in
excess of the actual population. There is therefore no doubt
that the decline in the birth-rate still continues, though the
rate of decline is not so rapid as appeared to be the case prior
to the Census of 1911.
In the sub-districts the birth-rates during 1912 were as follows:
North-West Battersea 289, East Battersea 284, South-West
Battersea 17 6.
