Births, Marriages and Deaths.
Population.
In 1901 the population of the Metropolitan Borough of Battersea
was 168,907. By the recent Census of 1911 the population of
the Borough was shown to have decreased during the decennium
to the extent of 1,164 (0 7 per cent.). The population of the
Borough estimated to the middle of the year is 167,589, on
which the rates in this report are based.

The estimated population for each of the sub-districts into which for registration purposes the Borough is divided, is as follows:—

South-West Battersea48,804

The natural increase of population by excess of births over
deaths during the year 1912 amounted to 2,203.
The area of the Borough (excluding water) is 2,139.9 acres,
the density of population being 78 3 person per acre.
Births.
The total number of births belonging to the Borough of
Battersea during 1912 was 4,255. Of the total births 2,188 were
males and 2,067 females, showing an excess of 121 males. The
births were 126 fewer than in 1911 and were 413 below the decennial
average 1902-1911.
