PUBLIC WATER-CLOSETS AND
UNDERGROUND CONVENIENCES.
There are now 32 Underground Conveniences
in the City, of which eight are provided for the use
of women. They contain 267 urinal compartments
and 181 water-closets. During week days
the majority are open until 11 or 12.30 p.m., the
one in Cannon Street not closing until 1 a.m.
On Sundays three are closed all day, the one
at Billingsgate is closed at 2 p.m., and the
remainder are open until 11 p.m.
Both at Golden Lane and Farringdon Street
free accommodation is provided for women, a
boon that is unquestionably much appreciated
by females of the poorer classes.
