DISINFECTION. &c., AT CITY
MORTUARY.
5,349 articles of bedding, clothing, furniture,
&c., were received at Golden Lane and disinfected.
108 bodies were received at the Mortuary,
pending interment; the number for the three
preceding years being 113, 94, and 131.
A practical difficulty was dealt with respecting
the reception of dead bodies at the City Mortuary.
Hitherto, in cases of sudden death, suicides, and
drowned persons taken from the river within the
City boundary, it had been the practice for the
Police, Ward Beadles, or others, to request the
Keeper of the Mortuary to send for such bodies
at all hours of the day and night, and that officer
had frequently to leave the building to assist in
such removal, during which time the Mortuary
and surrounding buildings were unprotected.
