The total volume of Sewage Pumped:—
1924. 1925. 1926.
347,787,000 361,167,000 369,913,000 gallons.
1927 1928 1929.
410,706,000 429,081,000 474,012,000
1930. 1931.
468,993,000 461,529,500 gallons.
It will be seen that the total volume of sewage
pumped during the year has again fallen by 7,463,500
gallons. This to some extent can be attributed to the
very low rainfall of the year, which although in spite
of a comparatively wet summer, was actually nearly six
inches less than for the year 1930.
During the year the tender of Messrs. J. Mowlem
and Co. for ,£9034 13s. 4d. was accepted by the Board
for the construction of three reinforced concrete tanks
and ten Sludge-drying beds. The contract is now
practically completed.
It will be seen from the above remarks that during
the last two years extension of activity has been undertaken
in the district. There is no doubt that as a
whole it is considerably in advance of similar districts
elsewhere.
Closet Accommodation.—During the year the
following were undertaken
Number of Pail Closets converted to W.C.'s 100
Number of Privies converted to Pails - 3
Scavenging.—The scavenging of the area during
the year has been, as in the past, carried out by contract.
One low-loading vehicle for day use is now in
use.
The Refuse Dumps are regularly inspected and
visited by the Staff of the Public Health Department,
and by dint of constant supervision are kept in a reasonable
condition.
Eat suppression is carried out from time to time.
