teration and the circumstances of sale, decided not to prosecute
the vendors, but to take further samples.
22 samples of milk were taken on delivery at various Public
Institutions situated within the Borough. One sample was reported
against.
76 samples of milk were procured whilst in transit from the
farmer to the retailer, the samples being taken as the milk
arrived at various railway stations within the Borough, both at
mid-night and mid-day deliveries. Nine samples were reported
against, and in six cases proceedings were taken against the
farmers, and convictions obtained.
16 samples of milk were procured during the early morning
from wholesale dealers whilst delivering milk to the retailer.
These samples were genuine.
13 samples of milk were procured on delivery at private
houses. One sample was reported against.
132 samples of milk have been taken on Sundays, either in
the early morning or at mid-day. Seven, or 5.3 per cent., were
reported against as being adulterated.
420 samples of milk were taken from milk vendors in the
street during the early morning (i.e., 5 to 7 a.m.), on week days,
and of these 21, or 5 per cent., were reported against.
Butter and Margarine.
BUTTER.
409 samples of butter were submitted for analysis during the
year, of which one was reported against.
MARGARINE.
33 samples of margarine were submitted for analysis, five
of which were reported against.
