Cesspools.—These are still occasionally met with in out of the way
places, and during the year 28 were found, of which 16 were abolished and 12
cleansed and disinfected.
Overcrowding.—84 instances came under the notice of the district
inspectors and each was abated. Many complaints as to overcrowding are
received each year, but when the rooms are measured up and allowance made
for children, it is very often found that the legal limit of air space has been
provided, and that consequently no action can be taken.
Underground Rooms.—These are now comparatively few, yet nevertheless
they are occasionally discovered, so that during the year 22 instances
of their illegal use came under observation, and in each instance it was
prohibited.
Houses closed.—It did not become necessary to close any houses.
