Much of this additional expenditure could not be foreseen. The
expenses in connection with the appeals to Assessment Sessions, and the
amount of Rates which has had to be returned as the result of these
appeals, have been heavier than was anticipated, and there have been also
certain works of Street Improvement carried out which were not
contemplated at the time the estimates were framed. With regard to
the latter it may be desirable in the future to consider whether the
costs in many of the Improvement works undertaken by the Vestry
from time to time may not fairly be charged to Capital. By this means
the expense would be distributed over a number of years, instead of
burdening a particular period with the whole of the cost.
It is some satisfaction to note, that notwithstanding the deficit
above referred to, if will not be necessary to levy a heavier Kate than
was required for the same period last year. The total amount necessary,
including the above, and after deducting £4,516 estimated receipts
during the half-year, is £87,955. It is estimated that a rate of 1s. 1d.
in the £ will produce £87,360, leaving the sum of £595 to be carried
forward to the next Rate.
The details of the General Kate requirements are comprised in
pp. 21 to 29 inclusive.
SEWERS RATE.
The amount required to defray the expenses connected with the
Sewerage of the Parish during the six months ending 31st March, 1893,
will be £4,129, for which a rate of ½d. in the £ will be necessary. This
is the same as for the corresponding period last year.
