From the preceding statements it will be seen that the total Rates
in the £ required for the half year ending 31st March, 1893, will be
2s. 8d. For the same period last year the rate was 2s. 6d. in the £.
The rateable value of the Parish at the present time is £1,683,089, and
a penny rate after allowing for losses from empty properties and
other causes is estimated to produce £6,720.
The following table gives the proportion of the rate under the
several headings of Expenditure, and also shows the actual amount
required for Vestry purposes, and that for expenditure over which the
Vestry has no control. From this it will be seen that, although the
total rate required is increased by 2d. in the £ over that for the corresponding
period of last year, that required for strictly Vestry purposes
stands practically at the same amount as before—less than 9¼d. in the £.
Shortly, out of a sum of £215,911 which has to be raised, £152,833,
equivalent to a rate of nearly 1s. 11d. in the £, is handed over to bodies
over whose expenditure the Vestry can exercise no control whatever.
