Brook sewer in Holloway Road was overfull from Hercules Road to
St. Jolin's Park and full at the overflow into the Holloway Relief sewer
opposite St. John's Villas. The Tottenham and Hampstead Junction
Railway sewer in Crouch Hill, Stroud Green Road, and Blackstock
Road was overfull, and the Company's lines were flooded to a depth
of 12 inches above the rails at Hornsey Road Station, and 3 feet
2 inches above the rails at Crouch Hill Station. The London Bridge
6ewer (Balls Pond Branch) in Mildmay Road King Henry's Walk and
Southgate Road, the Fleet Branch sewer in Caledonian Road near
King's Cross, the Cattle Market outfall sewer in Eden Grove and
Ashburton Grove, and the Vestry's sewers in St. Thomas' Road Seven
Sisters' Road and Grove Road were also all overfull.
The third storm occurred on Sunday, the 21st July, 1889, between
12 and 1 o'clock p.m., and a subsequent examination of the side
entrances shewed that the Hackney Brook sewer in Holloway Road
was overfull at Manor Road and Grove Road; that the Cattle Market
outfall sewer was overfull in Eden Grove; that the London Bridge
sewer (Pitfield Street Branch) was overfull at St. Paul's Street by
Coleman-street; that the London Bridge sewer (Balls Pond Branch)
was overfull in Mildmay Road, King Henry's Walk, and Southgate
Road; and that the Tottenham and Hampstead Junction Railway
sewer was overfull in Crouch Hill and Stroud Green Road, the storm
water rising to the level of the top of the sleepers on the Company's
line near Hornsey Road Station.
The fourth and last storm during the year occurred on the 27th July,
when the Hackney Brook sewer was overfull in Holloway Road between
Manor Road and Wedmore Street. The Cattle Market outfall sewer
was also overfull in Eden Grove and the London Bridge sewer (Balls
Pond Branch) was overfull at Southgate Road.
