entrance in Rosoman Street, as shown on plan, with power to
close Plumbers Place with gates at night to secure the proper
supervision of the staircases of their buildings, but with free
access from all points in day time.
2.—Power to put buildings over the sewer in Plumbers Place,
at the corner of Skinner Street and Rosoman Street, as shown
on the plan, complete access to the sewer in front, behind, and
below, the new building being secured to the Vestry.
3.—Payment by the Vestry of £1000 towards costs incurred
by the Artizans' Company.
4.—The Vestry to obtain all necessary approvals of public
authorities, if any.
After consideration, the Vestry replied that they
were not prepared to entertain the proposal in its
present form. The Company replied that unless
the Vestry were prepared to make some counter
offer which would be acceptable to the Company
the proposal would have to be abandoned ; but the
Yestry were not prepared to make any such proposal.
The Company then substituted a payment by the
Vestry of £50 per annum for ten years for their
previous third condition. The matter was referred
to the Works Committee, who informed the Company
that, if the condition of a payment were withdrawn,
they would recommend the Vestry to do the
necessary paving at an estimated cost of ,£150.
The Company submitted their offer amended
accordingly. The matter was considered very
fully by the Vestry, who eventually negatived the
proposal of the Committee; the principal objection
of the Vestry being to the stoppage of the current
of air which would be caused by the present entrance
to Plumber's Place being built over. The question
was subsequently raised in a slightly different form,
but with the same result; the Yestry passing a
resolution that no scheme for dealing with the projecting
houses in Rosoman Street will be satisfactory
to the Vestry which involves the building over of
any part of Plumber's Place.
