The Vestry unanimously passed the following
resolution:—That the Members of the Vestry desire
to express their great regret at the resignation
of the Rev. Wm. Dawson, M.A., of the Rectory of
St. John's, Clerkenwell, by which they feel that
the parish is losing a great benefactor and themselves
a valued colleague.
Death of Mr, Robert Paget, the Yestry
Clerk.—The Vestry have to record with great
regret the sudden decease of Mr. Robert Paget,
who had been Vestry Clerk of the Parish since the
constitution of the Vestry under the Metropolis
Local Management Act in 1856. On the 28th June,
l892, Mr. Paget was entering a train at Farringdon
Street Station, when his foot slipped and he was
partially drawn between the train and the platform,
and so injured that he only survived a short time.
The following letter was forwarded to Mrs. Paget
by the Chairman of the Vestry:—
40, Myddelton Square, E.C.,
4th July, 1892.
Dear Mrs. Paget,
My colleagues on the Yestry have requested me to
forward the resolution passed at its last Meeting, which very
inadequately expresses the deep sorrow that is felt by every
Member at the great and irreparable loss you have sustained.
We all recognise the fact that words cannot convey in the
slightest degree the sympathy that thrills through every heart
for you and yours in this hour of your terrible bereavement. We
have lost one who for many years has been associated with and
laboured for the benefit of the Parish of Clerkenwell, and we
mourn his death to-day with sincere regret. Your loss we cannot
measure—your grief we dare not attempt to gauge ; we
would fain stand aside and pray that He who alone can heal the
broken heart and wipe away the mourner's tear may sustain and
comfort you.
Believe me, dear Mrs. Paget,
Yours very faithfully,
WILLIAM ROBSON.
