Decease of Mr. J. W. Hill, Clerk to the
Guardians of the Holborn Union.— Clerkenwell
has reason to regret the decease also, on the
14th February, of Mr. James W. Hill, the Clerk of
the Guardians of the Holborn Union, who had held
the appointment for twenty-three years, and had
previously been Clerk to the Clerkenwell Guardians.
Although not an officer of the Vestry, Mr. Hill's
duties constantly brought him into contact with the
Vestry, and his zeal and ability were universally
recognised. On the proposal of the Vicar, the
Vestry unanimously passed the following resolution :
—That the Vestry hereby express their deep regret
at the decease of Mr. Hill, by which the Holborn
Union has lost a faithful and able officer, and that
this expression of the Vestry be communicated to
the members of the late Mr. Hill's family, and to
the Guardians of the Poor of the Holborn Union.
Decease of Mr. R. M. Holborn.—In March,
1892, there passed away in the person of Mr.
Robert Major Holborn, a resident in the neighbouring
Parish of Islington, a considerable benefactor
to the inhabitants of Clerkenwell in connection
with the public library. The Vestry forwarded to
Mr. Holborn's family an expression of their sincere
condolence, and recorded their heartfelt sorrow at
the great loss sustained by his decease.
