"That an Order be made under section 2 of
the Shops (Hours of Closing) Act, 1928, providing
that, as respects the trade or business
of selling table waters, sweets, chocolates or
other sugar confectionery or ice cream, the
general closing hours shall be 9 o'clock in the
evening on the late day and 8 o'clock in the
evening on any other day."
This procedure was in accordance with
guidance given in Home Office circular dated 7th
August, 1928.
Certain offences against the new Order were
subsequently observed, and the necessary evidence
for prosecutions obtained.
The cases were heard before the local Bench,
which, after an adjournment, announced its decision
against the Corporation in a considered opinion to
the effect that as the procedure prescribed in section
10 (3) of the Shops Act, 1912, had not been carried
out, the Order made by the Corporation was invalid.
CHEMICAL AND BACTERIOLOGICAL
EXAMINATION OF FOOD.
Arrangements are made for this work to be
carried out at the Laboratories of the Clinical
Research Association, York Buildings, Adelphi,
W.C.2.

During the year disinfection has been carried
out at 125 premises in which the following cases of
infectious diseases have occurred:—
