SCHOOLS.
The public elementary and private schools have
been visited from time to time and the sanitary
accommodation and water supply was found to be
satisfactory.
The public elementary schools were disinfected
as arranged with the Managers and Surrey
Education Committee; the classrooms, lobbies and
conveniences being sprayed with formaldehyde
during the summer holidays.
SMOKE ABATEMENT.
Eighteen complaints of smoks nuisances were
received during the year, and 37 smoke observations
were made. Three nuisances were found to exist,
and were subsequently abated, two after the service
of formal notices and one by informal action.
SHOPS ACTS. 1912-1936.
The Staff of the Department has spent considerable
time during the year in the administration
of the Shops Acts, five hundred and seventy-eight
inspections being made and many observations kept.
As a result of informal action the following
infringements of the Acts were rectified:—
Forms and notices 3 shops
Sink and water supply provided 1 shop
Ventilation improved 2 shops
W.C.'s repaired 2 shops
Staircase lighted 1 shop
During the year, the Corporation after consultation
with the three local traders' associations,
and after a ballot of the occupiers of shops
concerned, passed the following resolution:—
