Assuming the corrected death-rate of England and Wales for
1897 (17.43) to represent a standard figure of 1,000, the comparative
mortality figure of Croydon will be 781, of Brighton 874, of Norwich
1,032, of West Ham 1,045, of London 1,112.
The mean annual death-rate of the Borough during the 10 years,
1888.97, was 19.1, and the mean annual death-rate of London during
