The death.rate of the several Wards in the Borough, estimating the population on the basis of inhabited houses, is given in the following Table:—

In my last report I dealt with certain well-defined areas, in
which I had obtained a fairly accurate estimate of the population by
means of a house-to-house census. This year I have extended my
enquiries to additional areas, which may be taken as representative
of the districts in which they are included.
Before dealing with the mortality, I set out below the particulars obtained in each area, as they will be useful for future reference:—
