Systematic inspection of the district has been continued
during the year, in compliance with the provisions of the
Public Health Acts and the general orders of the Local
Government Board, relating to Housing, etc.
From the items enumerated in the summary at the end of
this report, it will be evident that a considerable amount of
structural improvements and alterations have been effected.
The total number of inspections made during the year was
5,985, and the number of sanitary defects and nuisances reported
for abatement was 2,870.
Four hundred and thirty-five informal, and 93 statutory
notices were served, and the number of interviews with owners
of property, builders and contractors, etc., was 482.
Legal proceedings to enforce the abatement of nuisances
had to be resorted to on three occasions.
Complaints.
The number of complaints received was 233, as compared
with 232 for the previous year.
Each complaint is duly recorded in a special register, and
investigated as early as possible, prompt measures being taken
to effect the abatement of nuisances reported.
