During the year 135 deaths were registered, being 45 more
deaths than during 1913.
One hundred and five deaths were registered in the district, and
30 in Public Institutions and other districts.
The corrected number of deaths is 128, giving a net death rate
of 9.2 per 1,000.
That for England and Wales, 14.0.
The County Medical Officer of Health, in his Annual Report
for 1913, makes this statement: "The lowest death rate was
recorded in the Urban District of the Maidens and Coombe, viz., 6.4
per 1,000." The standardized corrected death rate issued by the
Registrar-General is 6*5 per 1,000.
In 1905 the death rate was the lowest in the county, the London
Daily Chronicle referred to it:
"Low Death Rate in Surrey."
"From a return just issued New Maiden is in the proud position
of being able to boast of a death rate (7.1 per 1,000) which is
considerably less than half the average death rate for England and
Wales (16.2 per 1,000)."
