BIRTHS.
During the year 3,596 births were registered as against
3,573 in 1912, giving a birth.rate of 25*2 per 1,000 of population.
Of these 1,857 were males and 1,739 females, the male births
were therefore to the female births in the proportion of 1,067
to 1,000.
The birth.rate for England and Wales for the year was 23'9
per thousand, whilst the average rate for the 96 large towns
was 25" 1.
The rate is still on the decline although the number of
children born is in excess of last year.
