BOROUGH OF EAST HAM.
PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT.
REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
For the year 1913.
VITAL STATISTICS.
For administrative purposes the Borough is divided into six
Wards, it forms part of the Parliamentary Division of Romford,
for Poor Law Purposes is included in the West Ham Union,
and is a portion of the Metropolitan Police area.
Water is supplied by the Metropolitan Water Board with a
constant supply of good quality.
The streets are well kept, and a large number of trees planted.
The Borough is supplied with gas and electric light, the
latter works being owned by the Corporation.
POPULATION.
The population of the Borough at the Census of 1911 was
133,487.
The estimated population, according to the Registrar General,
at the middle of 1913, was 142,467.
Ward Density of Population.
The area of the Borough (including 55 acres of inland water)
is 3,326 acres. There are in addition 20 acres of tidal water and
9 of foreshore. The average density is 43 persons per acre, as
against 29 per acre in 1901.
